Newsround (originally called John Craven’s Newsround, before the departure of Craven) is a BBC children’s news programme, which has run continuously since 4 April 1972, and was one of the world’s first television news magazines aimed specifically at children. Initially commissioned as a short series by BBC Children’s Department, who held editorial control, its facilities are provided by BBC News. The programme is aimed at 6 to 12-year-olds.
Newsround was given an updated look around May 1987.
Newsround was given a new look in September 1990.
Newsround received a new look on 1 September 1997 - for the first time introducing the stylised 'nr' in its titles.
Newsround was relaunched on 11 February 2002, as part of the launch of the CBBC Channel on the same day.
Newsround unveiled a new look on 30th May 2006.
A new look for Newsround was unveiled on 6 October 2008.
A new graphics package was introduced to Newsround on Monday 6th January 2014.
A new look for Newsround was launched at 7.40am on Monday, 13th October 2014.
Newsround began broadcasting from a new-look studio on Monday, 4th September 2017.
