Cambridge Sub-Opt

For around 10 minutes during the main 6.30pm programme, and for the whole of the late bulletin following the BBC News at 10, Look East provides a localised service for the west of the BBC East region — Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, as well as most of Northamptonshire, and parts of north Buckinghamshire and south Lincolnshire. This is broadcast from their studios in Cambridge, and the opt within the main 6.30pm programme was referred to until 2008 as ‘Close Up’. Separate titles are run for the completely split late bulletin.

Goodbye St Catherine’s Close

Final Programme from St Catherine’s Close
After 44 years, the final Look East from St Catherine’s Close was broadcast on 26 September 2003. Most of the programme was spent touring the building which had been home to all BBC East radio and television productions since the 1950s, speaking to former presenters, and showing a montage of humorous clips. Look East was the last unit to leave the building, as BBC Radio Norfolk, The Politics Show and online services had already moved to The Forum during the summer.
