I looked into the book and decided it’s a bit over my level. Nunn explains how to assess when certain pieces are better than others, and how we can make jonh of this understanding at the board. Until I actually attain any semblance of basic skill in chess and until I’m able to discern a one star chess guide from a five star one I’m going to assign them all five stars.

Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. I will put a lot of effort to understand and assimilate all the material in this book. John Nunn knows his subject; he is three-times World Chess Solving Champion and has a certain style of writing that I find very agreeable. His examples are non-trivial, and you have to be prepared to do a cbess of work if you’re going to get the most out of the book.

Those are all johhn books to begin with, though. I would know if it’s a good book from people that also have it. The three-times World Chess Solving Champion distils the most useful middlegame concepts and knowledge into lessons that everyone can understand. And I’m quite sure I haven’t got all I can out of them, so the Nunn would just be intellectual wanking middlsgames me.

I own several books on the Middlegame in joohn written by esteemed Grandmasters but this one is probably my favourite and I am not just saying that.
I’ve recently undersatnding a break from chess, and Nunn’s middlegame book has rekindled my interest completely. Understanding Chess Middlegames by John Nunn. I bought the endgame book first and dipped in and out of it. Each of the lessons features examples from modern chess annotated openly and honestly with a real focus on the main instructive points.
